bachoter
What does the French word ‘bachoter’ mean? How is it used in a sentence? Listen to Annes' audio.
bachoter - a funny French word. I believe it comes from the old word bachot, short for baccalauréat. I thought it was a good word for today, as the baccalauréat results are coming out. Many lives are going to be changed today. I wish all candidates get the bac. In any case, bachoter means either to study hard or to cram for an exam. It's a regular -ER verb that conjugates like AIMER does.
bachoter - un petit mot rigolo. Je pense qu'il vient du vieux mot bachot, diminutif de baccalauréat. J'ai pensé que c'était un bon mot pour aujourd'hui, car ce sont les résultats du bac. De nombreuses vies vont changer aujourd'hui. Je souhaite à tous d'avoir le bac. En tous cas, bachoter veut dire ou 'to study hard' ou 'to cram for an exam'. C'est un verbe régulier en -ER, qui se conjugue comme AIMER.
- « Il a bien bachoté et il a eu son bac avec mention. »
- "He really crammed - and he did it well - for his high-school degree and he got it with honors."
