Telle mère telle fille – the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – Mot du Jour

telle mère telle fille – such mother such daughter. In everyday French, telle mère telle fille means that a daughter looks or acts very much like her mother, ‘like mother, like daughter’, ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’. It’s a take on the French expression ‘tel père tel fils’.

  • « Oh là là ! Tu manges de la confiture de pêches au petit-déje ? Telle mère telle fille ! »
    • “What? You have peach jam for breakfast too? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
