manger dans la main de quelqu'un - to eat in a person's hand - means to be at a person’s beck and call, to obey orders right away. There are two common structures for this idiomatic expression: manger dans la main de quelqu'un or, the inverted structure: il/elle me/te/lui/ mange dans la main, and they are kind of opposite.   • « Donne-lui deux jours et il me mangera dans la main. »
    "Give him two days and he'll be at my beck and call."

présent : je mange dans sa main - I'm at his/her beck and call, il me mange dans la main - he's at my beck and call

passé simple : je mangeai dans sa main, I was at his/her beck and call, il/elle me mangea dans la main - s/he's at my beck and call
