advienne que pourra – whatever happens, happens – Mot du Jour

advienne que pourra – happen that will. advienne is the subjonctive form – 3rd person singular – of the verb advenir, which means ‘to happen’, to occur’. pourra is the future tense of the verb pouvoir, which means ‘to be able to’, ‘can’. In everyday French, advienne que pourra means ‘whatever happens, happens’.

  • « Ça y est, j’ai pris ma décision et je ne peux plus rien y faire. Advienne que pourra ! »
    • “That’s it, I made my decision and nothing can be done about it anymore. Whatever happens, happens!”
