Une sorcière – A Witch or a Bitch? – French expression

Une sorcière - A Witch or a Bitch?

French

A good witch l photo Randen Pederson

What does the French word ‘ sorcière ’ mean? How is it used in a sentence?

une sorcière - literally a witch - is often used as the slang American English uses 'a bitch': a malicious, unpleasant, selfish person. And guess what, the masculine for sorcière, un sorcier, actually means a good wizard. Interesting how the feminine word is really negative, and the masculine word very positive.

  • « Va rien lui demander, c’est une vraie sorcière, celle-là. »
  • “Don’t go and ask her for anything. She’s a real bitch.”

Try not to use this expression today 🙂
