arriver à - French expression
What does the French expression ' arriver à ' mean? What does it sound like? How is it used in a sentence? Listen to Anne Audio.
arriver à - literally to arrive to - actually means to be able to, can. Often, when spoken, the speaker will insist on CAN, as if it were a surprise, as if it were unexpected.
- « J'arrive à parler français. »
"I can speak French."
- « J'arrive pas à te trouver sur Facebook. Tu peux m'ajouter en amie ? »
"I don't seem to be able to find you on Facebook. Can you add me as a friend?"
Note that there is an accent over the A, and that's because this A is not the verb AVOIR, it's a preposition.
